He made the promise to “end the war in Ukraine in 24 hours” without thinking, just saying outrageous things as he always does — and suddenly this one got traction.
“I think I have the power to end this war, and I think it’s going very well. But today, I heard, ‘Oh, well, we weren’t invited.’ Well, you’ve been there for 3 years. You should have ended it.”
He’s now forever going to be hunted by this “24-hour end of war” promise, which he cannot deliver upon. Not in 24 hours, not in 100 days.

So, he kept talking about it and it became one of the cornerstones of his policies. He promised to end the aid to Ukraine, because it resonated with part of his base. Trump’s secret advisors (Elon Musk) tell him that the peace deal can’t be signed with Zelenskyy as the president. Putin wants elections in Ukraine during the war time, confident that Russia can use it to split the unity in Ukraine.
Ukraine now is the unelected leader of the free world — standing for what is right, standing for freedom, for loyalty, for the core moral values.

Because Trump genuinely wants to end the war in Ukraine.
But it also shows the U.S. impotence.
